The second city of Round the World, Shichiken and Ducasse Paris’ tour to seven cities around the world, was Bangkok, Thailand.

On October 26, the event was held at Blue by Alain Ducasse with spectacular views of Bangkok’s skyscrapers and the Chao Phraya River.

The following five drinks were prepared on that day, as at the first event.

-       Alain Ducasse Sparkling Sake
-       Sparkling Yama no Kasumi
-       Junmai Daiginjo Kinunoaji
-       Junmai Furinbisan
-       Alain Ducasse Sustainable Spirits

“Our first priority for the pairing menu was to bring out the maximum flavor, aroma and texture of each Shichiken sake,” said Executive Chef Wilfrid Hocquet.

For this dinner, while respecting the ingredients in accordance with Alain Ducasse’s culinary philosophy, the chef chose the sake first and then created the dishes based on that selection, which is the opposite of the usual procedure.

“Shichiken’s sake has a wide variety of aromas and unique styles. We wanted to create a journey of tastes bridging the gap between French cuisine and the delicate flavors of Japan.”

The table was lined with sake and French cuisine that incorporated the oriental essence of Thailand.

The guests’ reactions were very positive.

Ambassador Otaka, the Japanese Ambassador in Thailand, who was present at the event, was also satisfied.

“This was the first time for me to consider sake pairings, and it was a very meaningful experience,” said Hocquet as he reflected on the special evening dinner.

He continued, “Sake is a rich drink, steeped in history and culture. I am passionate about wine, but sake, despite its similarities with wine, is a completely different world. I am particularly interested in its complexity, diversity of aromas, and ability to adapt to different cuisines. Sake is a great match for gastronomic pairings.”

The festive banquet, surrounded by the night’s glittering skyscrapers, came to a successful end.

The next stop was Naples, Italy.
